Community Health Involvement Project (CHIP)
Description: USC CHIP is a completely student-run organization dedicated to improving access to health services in low-income communities around USC by offering basic health screenings, educational workshops and guidance to follow up with nearby healthcare facilities. Since our inception in 2006, we have established long-term relationships with over a dozen local schools, community centers and places of worship, and we continue to work closely with them today. All of our student volunteers are professionally trained for the services they provide, and we have regular training sessions on topics ranging from blood pressure screening (by the Red Cross) to insurance counseling (by the National Health Foundation’s CHAMP program) to health communication (by professors from the Annenberg School for Communication).
Upcoming Projects:On Saturday, March 27, 2010, CHIP will be hosting the First Annual USC Community Health Fair on McCarthy Quad for an estimated 500 participants from the community. This is a collaborative effort between student organizations, nonprofits and local businesses, and it is a great opportunity to give back to the community. Let us know if you or your organization would like to get involved!
